God has graciously allowed me to read the Bible through for every year that I've been alive. It amazes me how living and active the Word of God is and how God speaks to us in fresh ways every time we open His Book.

For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.” (Hebrews 4:12, NLT)

I was recently struck by an interchange between Moses and Pharaoh. Each one of the ten plagues was an assault by the one true God on the false gods of Egypt. One "god" the Egyptians worshiped was a frog.

You know the story. Pharaoh hardened his heart and refused to let the Jewish people leave their life of slavery to worship the Lord. The Lord responds through Moses,

“If you refuse to let them go, I will send a plague of frogs across your entire land. The Nile River will swarm with frogs. They will come up out of the river and into your palace, even into your bedroom and onto your bed! They will enter the houses of your officials and your people. They will even jump into your ovens and your kneading bowls. Frogs will jump on you, your people, and all your officials.
(Exodus 8:2–4, NLT)

Frogs everywhere! In your bedroom, on your bed, in your ovens, in your bread, everywhere frogs (I feel a Dr. Seuss rhyme coming on)!

So Pharaoh has had enough. He calls for Moses and Aaron and asks for Moses to pray for God to take the frogs away; he would let the people go.

Let's listen in to what Moses says:

““You set the time!” Moses replied. “Tell me when you want me to pray for you, your officials, and your people. Then you and your houses will be rid of the frogs. They will remain only in the Nile River.”” (Exodus 8:9, NLT)

““Tomorrow,” Pharaoh said. Moses replied, “It will be as you say, so that you may know there is no one like the Lord our God.”” (Exodus 8:10, NIV)

TOMORROW???

Why didn't he say, "TODAY! RIGHT NOW!"

Pharaoh could get rid of the frogs immediately and he chooses another day of eating frogs!!

But the Spirit of God spoke to me through the Word of God: "Hey, don't be so harsh, Pharaoh Beau. What frogs are you eating today that you could get rid of immediately through my power?"

We have to hate the frogs we are eating today to say, "I've had enough Kermit for one lifetime! Change my life - not tomorrow, Lord. DO IT NOW!"

We really do not change until we are disgusted with what is going on currently.

Or, to put it another way, the pain of the status quo must exceed the pain of change.

Do you feel like you're eating frogs at your job, and God is saying, "When do you want to take the step of faith to change your situation? I give to you the honor of setting the time for your deliverance."

Do you respond with, "Tomorrow?"

Do you feel like you're eating frogs in your marriage and you are waiting for your spouse to change? Perhaps God is saying, "It's not a 50/50 proposition. You give your 100% and I will take care of your spouse in answer to your prayers and obedience. When do you want that marriage you've always wanted? You can begin the change today."

Is your reply, "Tomorrow?"

Have you had enough heartburn from the frog legs with your children, and you want to see a change? Maybe you are not training them in the nurture and admonition of the Lord (Ephesians 6;1-4). You are waiting for a change, maybe passing them off from one relative to the next as is common in our region in the hope that someone can do them some good? But God is telling you to take the step of faith to discipline your child in the Lord. When will you start?

"Maybe tomorrow? They might commit suicide if I correct them (as one elder told me recently)."

Is there a personal habit that has become too comfortable in your life? The chains of a bad habit or so light we cannot feel them until we try to break them. When do you want the Lord's deliverance?

"After this last one, Lord, so maybe - tomorrow?"

If God says to us in our job, our marriage, with our children, with a personal habit, "When do you want real, lasting change? When are you going to be really sick and tired of eating frogs? I will deliver you from eating frogs - and you get the honor of setting the time when it will happen."

Don't respond with, "Well, TOMORROW!"

“Jesus said to the paralyzed man by the well, “Do you want to get well?””
(John 5:1-8)

The paralyzed man came up with some lame excuse (pun intended) about someone else not being around to drop him in the water at just the right time.

Jesus didn't ask him if he wanted to be put in bubbling water. He asked if he wanted healing.

Pharaoh, why eat frogs today?

Paralyzed man waiting 38 years for healing, why wait?

GET WELL NOW FOR THE GLORY OF GOD AND YOUR OWN GOOD!

When will we finally be tired - sick and tired - of eating frogs?

  • What frogs are you eating today that you could get rid of immediately through the power of our Lord?

Rejoicing, On the Victory Side!
