We have been on a journey during the last few days discovering what God's Word says to a young mother who is not ready for Jesus to return because she wants to watch her family grow up and enjoy things on earth with her family. Just to remind you, this is what she wrote (used with permission):

"I really enjoy the life God has given me. My children and husband are so important to me and I cannot imagine heaven being as wonderful as what I have here. I love the life I have, the people and things in it. I feel as though even saying this is wrong but it’s truly what I feel and it’s on my mind a lot.

How can I as a Christian not be anxious for God to return?

Sadly I have a fear of God returning and I know it shouldn’t be that way. I pray about it often and find myself so conflicted to the point of tears and fear."

(Young Mother in Kansas)

If we were sitting down for coffee together with her husband and her, this is what I would ask (after the teaching about the Lord’s return):

Do you trust GOD?

The question itself could be taken two ways.

Do you trust GOD? In other words, do you find GOD to be dependable? Trustworthy? That He wants to give you HIS BEST?

The other way the question could be understood is, Do YOU trust God? Do you have the kind of relationship with the Lord, do you have a history with the God of Time and History, where YOU have found Him to be dependable and trustworthy?

What I am concerned about underneath the fear for the Lord’s return is a lack of trust in God, His goodness, and that He will give the best to her family and her.

Every relationship is built on trust. The more we know someone, the more we trust them, or mistrust them.

The more this young mother gets to the know the Living Lord, the more she will trust the Lord and His plans for her family and her.

“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise - in God I trust and am not afraid. What can mere mortals do to me?” (Psalm 56:3-4, NIV)

“Eye has not seen nor ear heard what God has prepared for those who love Him.”
(1 Cor. 2:9-11)

If you think this earth with your family is good, and it only took the Lord six days to make, imagine how much better heaven will be since He's had 2,000 years to go prepare a place for us! (John 14:1-3)

That includes our family who know and love Him. Heaven will be exponentially better than anything on earth! You have never seen a rose as beautiful as God intended it to be because of the Fall of Man.

The antidote to fear is faith.

And now, just as you accepted Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.
(Colossians 2:6-7, NLT)

  • Do you trust GOD?
In other words, do you find GOD to be dependable?
    Trustworthy?
That He wants to give you HIS BEST?
