Dear Friend,

I have received several email requests asking for more clarity on how to think Biblically about what is happening in America right now.

Please pray for me as I am writing a brief book about this very topic from a spiritual perspective: 10 Prayers that Bring Heaven to Earth…For Reconciliation.

While it would be impossible to try to untangle the long history of racism in America in the space of these brief emails or a short book, I wanted to respond to the many emails from readers of these blog posts I send out three times weekly asking for help with a biblical perspective. Please, read what I write here with your Bible open and discernment from the Lord. It is your responsibility to examine God’s Word for yourself,

Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true.” (Acts 17:11, NIV)

DIFFERENT LENSES

Do you wear glasses? Some of us are at the age where bifocals or trifocals are a necessity, not a luxury. In order to see correctly, you have to be looking through the precise part of the lens.

If we are going to accurately assess what is happening around us, we must look through different lenses in order to gain perspective.

What is happening in our country currently must be viewed through different ways of seeing. All of these relate to how the Lord wants us to view others and the world.

THE PROPHETIC LENS

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God - having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.” (2 Timothy 3:1-5, NIV)

Are we living in the last days? According to God’s Word, since Jesus was raised from the dead we are living in the last days!

but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe.” (Hebrews 1:2, NIV)

If you are not ready for Jesus Christ’s return - NOW IS THE MOST IMPORTANT TIME OF YOUR LIFE! Get ready! He could come before you finish reading this article. There is not one more prophecy that must be fulfilled in order for Jesus to return. That doesn’t mean he HAS to come back right now, but he could.

Are you spiritually prepared for Christ’s return in light of all that is going on in the world now?
Think of all of the geological events, the aberrant weather, and all of the other elements warned about in Matthew 24 prior to Jesus’ return. These events are daily headlines now. Get ready!

GRACE LENS

God’s Grace is Available to ALL Mankind!

God is no respecter of persons. He has made us all and he loves us all with His eternal love through Christ. Genetically we are the same family and are just different shades of the gene that creates the color of our skin.

For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people.” (Titus 2:11, NIV)

I remember hearing Pastor Tony Evans at a Promise Keeper’s Meeting years ago say, “Whatever race you are on earth, that is the race you will be in heaven.” He could see that this was a new concept to many of us listening to him, so he proved it from God’s Word:

And they sang a new song with these words: “You are worthy to take the scroll and break its seals and open it. For you were slaughtered, and your blood has ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. And you have caused them to become a Kingdom of priests for our God. And they will reign on the earth.”” (Revelation 5:9-10, NLT)

Isn't that exciting??

If you are an Inupiaq Eskimo (where I live in the Arctic) or an African-American or a Samoan or a "White" (whatever that means in light of how many claim many different ethnic heritages), etc. you will be around the Throne of Grace worshiping God in heaven!

God has never made a person He doesn't love. Race was God's idea. Reconciliation - including racial reconciliation - is at the heart of the Gospel.

We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.” (2 Corinthians 5:20, NIV)

Being reconciled to God means that we can now be reconciled to others.

Make no mistake about it: how you and I treat other people matters deeply to God.

Now let the fear of the Lord be on you. Judge carefully, for with the Lord our God there is no injustice or partiality or bribery.” (2 Chronicles 19:7, NIV)

The word for "justice" and "righteousness" is the same in the original language of the Hebrew Bible. There is still injustice against black Americans and many other minority groups.

“Partiality” is an old English word for racism and prejudice. This means treating one group of people better than another group and the Church must not be silent when racism is practiced. Remember this from James 2:

My brothers and sisters, believers in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ must not show favoritism. Suppose a man comes into your meeting wearing a gold ring and fine clothes, and a poor man in filthy old clothes also comes in. If you show special attention to the man wearing fine clothes and say, “Here’s a good seat for you,” but say to the poor man, “You stand there” or “Sit on the floor by my feet,” have you not discriminated among yourselves and become judges with evil thoughts? Listen, my dear brothers and sisters: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him? But you have dishonored the poor. Is it not the rich who are exploiting you? Are they not the ones who are dragging you into court? Are they not the ones who are blaspheming the noble name of him to whom you belong?” (James 2:1-7, NIV)

How do you respond when you see people treated differently?
