“Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and on his law he meditates day and night. He is like a tree planted by streams of water that yields its fruit in its season, and its leaf does not wither. In all that he does, he prospers. The wicked are not so, but are like chaff that the wind drives away. Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous; for the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.” (Psalm 1:1-6, ESV)
Have you ever seen a cow sitting under a tree chewing its cud?
Cows have seven stomachs. When they feed on grass, they regurgitate it and chew on it again. They then swallow this ball of grass to their second stomach, where it is digested a little more before it is regurgitated again, and chewed on again. This happens through all seven stomachs.
That is a picture of how God wants us to meditate on His Word. We meditate (chew on it, think about it) over and over again, enjoying every bit of nutrient and health we can get.
The Hebrew word for "meditate" is literally the Hebrew word "hagah" and it means "to mutter." In other words, when we meditate, we are muttering God's Word out loud to ourselves, quietly reading it out loud and verbally, and pondering how it applies to us.
How often do you meditate on Scripture?
Have you memorized any verses in the last week? Month? Year? Ever? If you will memorize Scripture, you will find that you can think about it (meditate) while you are driving, walking around, falling asleep - anywhere!
“How can a young man keep his way pure? By guarding it according to your word. With my whole heart I seek you; let me not wander from your commandments! I have stored up your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
(Psalm 119:9-11, ESV)

Don't just watch television shows ABOUT the Bible - meditate on your Bible!
Don't just take someone's word for what the Bible says - look it up yourself!

“Now these Jews were more noble than those in Thessalonica; they received the word with all eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see if these things were so.” (Acts 17:11, ESV)
