We discussing how to become best friends with God. Many people have asked for more information about the law of Sowing and Reaping, so let's unpack this concept of Sowing and Reaping a little more from Galatians 6:7-9.

Do not be deceived: God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. Whoever sows to please their flesh, from the flesh will reap destruction; whoever sows to please the Spirit, from the Spirit will reap eternal life. Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:7–9, NIV)

Samuel Smiley, a Confederate Chaplain during the Civil War, wrote this chart:

SOWING                                                                                 REAPING

THOUGHT      ----------------------------------------------->             ACTION

ACTION          ----------------------------------------------->             HABIT

HABIT             ----------------------------------------------->             CHARACTER

CHARACTER ----------------------------------------------->             DESTINY

See the progression?
When we sow a thought, we reap an action. Sow an action often enough, it becomes a habit. Sow a habit, reap a character, and sowing our character determines our destiny.

Today's choices are the father of tomorrow's results.

What we are today is the result of what we have been thinking, which has led to actions. Those actions repeated often enough create our habits, which in turn determines our character, which leads to our destiny.

Those who act wisely today will have wisdom in the future to make wise decisions. The same is true when we come to the subject of finances. Those who save wisely today will have plenty tomorrow. Those who spend everything they have today will have little or nothing in the future. It is a shortsighted person who thinks only of the now, doing as little as possible, because on payday he will have no way to avoid the poor quality and small quantity of his rewards.

Every farmer understands the meaning of sowing and reaping from Galatians 6:7-9. Here are a few observations:

  1. The principle of sowing and reaping applies to everyone, both Christians and non-Christians.
    This principle is irrevocable; there is no escape, either for the believer or for the unbeliever. It is a law of life.
    Did you notice how Galatians 6:7 begins?
    God says, “Do not be deceived, God cannot be mocked.” God tells us the root cause of the careless and indulgent lifestyle of many people. They are They either do not believe the truth, or they think they will somehow be the exceptions to God’s laws.

To mock God is to turn up one’s nose at Him, to hope to outwit Him-a foolish thought, as 2 Corinthians 5:10 reveals: “We must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.”

If you were required to appear before the judgment seat of Christ in the next five minutes, what kind of crops would you have to show?

Don't be like W.C. Fields, who was an atheist but was found thumbing through the Bible on his deathbed. Someone asked what he was doing and he replied, "Searching for a loophole."

  1. We reap what we sow.
    The fact that we reap what we sow is good news for those who sow good habits, but a frightening thought for those currently involved in ungodly activities. We cannot sow crabgrass and expect to reap avocados. We cannot sow disobedience to God and expect to reap His blessing. What we sow, we reap.

Let us not deceive ourselves: We will reap the harvest of our lives.

  • In what areas of your life are you deceiving yourself into thinking God will not allow you to reap what you have sown, or are sowing?
    What will you sow differently?
