Pressure can cause you to lose your happiness. You can have pressure from within yourself or you can have it around you. It can be internal or it can be external pressure.

Encountering all kinds of problems can be a killjoy. In fact, God calls them "multi-colored" problems in James 1:3. "Count it all joy when you encounter problems of various kinds (or colors)."

One of the youth asked me once, "If God loves me so much, then why can't I get my locker open?" Of course, those of us who are older hope that is the worst problem this child ever encounters - but it probably won't be!

Pain, people, pressures and problems are all KILLJOYS!

Why does God allow PAIN, PEOPLE, PRESSURES and PROBLEMS into our lives?

I mean, after all, God wants me to be happy, right?

You hear that statement all the time from people - usually when they are trying to justify some decision they are making. The reasoning goes like this, "This (person, situation, job, etc.) is not making me happy, so everyone knows God wants me to be happy, so I have to (divorce, change my situation, quit my job, etc.)." Sounds like a verse right out of 2 Condominiums 2:2, doesn't it? Condominiums is not a Book of the Bible, by the way!

God's main purpose is not to make us happy but to make us holy!

What our Heavenly Father is up to in allowing the Killjoys is found in Romans 8:28-29,

And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them. For God knew his people in advance, and he chose them to become like his Son, so that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters.” (Romans 8:28-29, NLT)

Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy, because I am holy.”” (1 Peter 1:13–16, NIV)

Notice God does not say,
"Be happy because I am happy!"

When we are holy, God will give us eternal happiness because we will be more like Jesus.

  • What pain do you have to go throw?
Which people makes your live hard?
What kind of problems are troubling you?
