It will be known as probably the most puzzling cold-case mystery the world has ever known.

It was not a murder - or was it?

it was not a suicide - we hope.

It was not a kidnapping - but maybe?

It was not a skilled serial killer who hid the evidence - God forbid!

Joseph Crater was a successful New York Supreme Court Judge. He waved good-bye to family and friends after a dinner during the 1930's and was never heard from or seen again.

Ever.

Lots of speculation as to what happened - but no one knows. Teams went everywhere he could have been and nothing has been found in almost 90 years.

The only clue he left was a note attached to a large check in his home for his wife that read, "I am very weary. Love, Joe".

That was it. He has never been heard from or seen again.

Do you ever feel that weary?
I am not talking about the weariness that comes from a hard day at work where maybe you are emotionally fatigued from many decisions or from exhausting physical labor.

Have you ever felt the weariness you experience just before giving up?

It could be an illness that just won't go away. Or a relationship that is not breathing life into you any longer and you can't seem to communicate the way you once did. It could be a friendship that has waned, even though you both promised to be BFF's forever.

You're desperate and don't know where to turn for help?

Unfortunately, many young people in our region get this way and they feel the only way out is suicide.

But to them, and to all the Joseph Craters in the world, there is One who says He alone has the solution for such weariness. He stands at the crossroads, spreads His arms wide, and says,

“Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”” (Matthew 11:28-30, NLT)

We come.

We yoke.

We learn.

We rest.
