Dear Friend,

Our nation is in desperate need of healing and we as Christ-followers cannot be silent! No one deserved to have happen to them what happened to George Floyd.

We have been discussing the different lenses through which we can view what is happening in our world currently. We could look through the Prophetic Lens, the Grace Lens and the Attitude Lens.

Let’s explore the Attitude Lens further.

Attitude Lens:  We could adopt one of seven attitudes toward other races.

  1. You could be a "racist," the worst of all, as someone who "hates another race or bullies another race or discriminates against another race."
  2. You could be a "bigot," just slightly better than the racist. A bigot is someone who "believes stereotypes about a particular race and belittles other people."
  3. You could be an "avoider.” An avoider is somebody who … is uncomfortable around people who aren't like" him.
  4. You could be "insensitive.” These are persons who are insensitive to what hurts others.
  5. You could be "apathetic.” These are people who just don't care about racism, because they don’t think it affects them.
  6. But a follower of Jesus Christ has to be “caring.” Looking on the positive side, it is good to be caring and sensitive. These are people who are kind and inclusive.

But this attitude is not the best and is not what God expects of His children.

  1. Beyond caring, we must take action to be a “reconciler.” God wants us to be a "reconciler," someone who is an "active bridge builder," and reflects biblical values.

God blesses those who work for peace, for they will be called the children of God.” (Matthew 5:9, NLT)

Remember, dear friend, that we can only truly be reconciled to one another when we are reconciled to God first.

This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun! And all of this is a gift from God, who brought us back to himself through Christ. And God has given us this task of reconciling people to him. For God was in Christ, reconciling the world to himself, no longer counting people’s sins against them. And he gave us this wonderful message of reconciliation. So we are Christ’s ambassadors; God is making his appeal through us. We speak for Christ when we plead, “Come back to God!” For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.” (2 Corinthians 5:17–21, NLT)
