Dear Friend,

I have received many email requests asking for more clarity on how to think Biblically about what is happening in America right now.

Please pray for me as I am writing a brief book about this very topic from a Biblical perspective: 10 Prayers that Bring Heaven to Earth…For Reconciliation.

Just to catch us all up to where we are in our understanding, remember that we must wear DIFFERENT LENSES in order to see correctly what is happening in our world at this time.

THE PROPHETIC LENS

But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God - having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with such people.” (2 Timothy 3:1-5, NIV)

We are living in the last days, so get ready for Jesus' return!

GRACE LENS

God’s Grace is Available to ALL Mankind!

God is no respecter of persons. He has made us all and he loves us all with His God has never made a person He doesn't love. Race was God's idea. Reconciliation - including racial reconciliation - is at the heart of the Gospel. “We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.” (2 Corinthians 5:20, NIV)

Being reconciled to God means that we can now be reconciled to others.

ATTITUDE LENS (Get Ready - it gets real here!)

We could adopt one of seven attitudes toward other races.

  1. You could be a RACIST.

Webster’s defines a RACIST as,
“a person who is prejudiced against or antagonistic toward people on the basis of their membership in a particular racial or ethnic group, typically one that is a minority or marginalized.”

When I was a child we lived in Atlanta, GA during the 1960's. We lived in a mixed-race neighborhood and I had several black friends. I will never forget when Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated. All of a sudden, my friends could not play with me. Their mother would not let them come outside and play with me, and I could not go play with them for a season. Of course, being children neither my friends nor I understood why.

In Middle School, my friend, Daniel Walker, and I sat next to each other every day in class. We were both part of a group called, “Project Aires” in Charlotte, North Carolina to help with racial reconciliation. Keep in mind this was during the 1970’s and we had gun clubs in the school (students would bring their guns to school on the bus to shoot after school with an adult sponsor). We were sitting in Science class one day and we heard a gunshot outside the school. The teacher put us in lock down, and we clung to each other under the desk. He said, “If the shooter comes through the door and he’s white, I’m dead! If he’s black, you’re dead!” So, we promised each other right there that we would protect each other.

Racists are dangerous people no matter what their ethnic nationality.

  1. You could be a BIGOT.

Webster’s defines a bigot as,
“a person who is intolerant toward those holding different opinions.”

BIGOTS are only slightly better than the RACISTS, because they are someone who believes stereotypes about a particular race and belittles other people.

We see this bigotry and racism against Jesus several times in his life and ministry, but especially at the beginning.

The next day Jesus decided to go to Galilee. He found Philip and said to him, “Come, follow me.” Philip was from Bethsaida, Andrew and Peter’s hometown. Philip went to look for Nathanael and told him, “We have found the very person Moses and the prophets wrote about! His name is Jesus, the son of Joseph from Nazareth.” “Nazareth!” exclaimed Nathanael. “Can anything good come from Nazareth?”Come and see for yourself,” Philip replied.” (John 1:43-46, NLT)

If you are white, what is your first thought or feeling when your new doctor is a minority woman?

If you are a minority and the doctor does not act like he is really listening to you, what is your first thought or feeling?

And if you are from one of the areas where people think lower of you because you came from the wrong side of the tracks, remember that you are in good company with Jesus!

Rejoicing, On the Victory Side!
