In America, Bibles are everywhere. You can find them in grocery stores, bookstores, motel rooms, just about everywhere. They're available in all sizes, shapes, translations, versions, leather bound, paperback. Every year the Bible outsells every other major bestseller.

Last year there were 600 million Bibles published in the world in 18,000 different languages.

In fact the most stolen book from bookstores - three out of four books - is a Bible! Go figure!

In America we can hear or read the Word of God on the airways, radio, TV, books, magazines. It's almost everywhere.

Yet millions of people still miss the blessing of the Bible.

Why?

Because being blessed by the Bible is not automatic.

The Bible is a book of blessing. It promises comfort, strength, hope, wisdom, joy, power, and purpose. But just because you have a Bible doesn't mean you're going to get the benefit from it.

Because I am teaching a Bible Study every Tuesday night through James, we are studying James 1:25, which is a key verse.

"The man who looks intently into the perfect law that gives freedom and continues to do this, not forgetting what he has heard but doing it, he will be blessed in what he does."

The Bible is called the perfect law because it's exactly what I need. It promises freedom and it promises blessing.

God gives us three steps to being blessed by the Bible

Every morning I listen to God's Word as I work out; and every night I play chapters before I go to sleep. I do this because God's Word reminds us in Psalm 1:2, "meditate on it day and night." I usually have no trouble falling asleep and, honestly, half of my dreams at night revolve around the Lord's work in some way or another.

Try it! I use several free apps that will read God's Word to you, or your children as they doze off.

Don't worry, if your child listens to Scripture at night as they fall asleep, they will grow up to be good church members who sleep every time it's read like lots of folks already!!!  ;-)

• How receptive are you to the Word of God?
